Boating holidays in the Heart of England

Pick a boating holiday in the 'Heart of England' to explore the canals which were originally built to transport coal and manufactured goods from the Midlands to city of London and beyond. This area offers a wide variety of cruising options including city breaks to Birmingham, worcester or Diglis or Stratford upon Avon as well as a great choice of rural routes through the British countryside.

You can enjoy an 'out and back' weekend or midweek holiday or a more active week or fortnight exploring one of the various ring routes including the Four Counties Ring, Warwickshire Ring, Stourport Ring or the Birmingham mini Ring.

Our recommendations:

Short breaks: On a midweek break starting from one of the bases close to Rugby you can visit Warwick where you can moor up within a short 10 minute walk of the famous Warwick Castle.

Alternatively, why not start from Alvechurch or Tardebigge on the Worcester & Birmingham Canal and visit Birmingham. You can moor up at Gas Street Basin, right in the centre of the City with many waterside pubs and restaurants plus great shopping and entertainment on your doorstep. Highlights include The Symphony Hall, The National Indoor Arena and The Sealife Centre.

Week holidays: For those in search of a cultural break, start from Wootton Wawen on the Stratford upon Avon Canal and visit the Royal Shakespeare theatre. You can moor overnight in the canal basin in the centre of Stratford upon Avon before either venturing onto the Upper & Lower River Avon.

Whatever type of boating holiday you are looking for, the central England canals have something to offer all!
